Lunar Eclipse

I stayed up well after midnight  to see the lunar eclipse. It changed slowly ,yet brilliantly. It seemed to be a metamorphosis almost as if a butterfly were emerging from a chrysalis.

The still frame photos captured with my camera remind me of Eadweard Muybridge's iconc 19th-century images of the galloping horse. While the horse was actually galloping,  the moon is over 200,000 miles from Earth. The distorted size and scale of the sphere, further changed by the time light travels through space, makes this observation of motion especially fascinating for me.
