My 2025-26 project “Looking Up” is funded in part by a Maryland State Arts Council Creativity grant. My oil paintings explore celestial themes from two viewpoints—first as “plein air” skyscapes based on direct observation outdoors, and I also do studio paintings abstracted and inspired by ESA and NASA giant telescope images.
I plan to engage community interest in night sky watching, astronomy‑inspired creativity, and enduring human curiosity about nature and life in the infinite universe beyond planet Earth. The project includes my original celestial oil paintings that explore light, atmosphere, and the emotional experience of looking skyward. My work combines field observation, scientific reference material, and artistic interpretation to create paintings that echo the color, scale, and mystery found in outer space.
There will be an art art reception in October 2026 with guest speaker Dr. Matthew Greenhouse from NASA at Polaris Village Academy in Easton, MD. I will also give a public talk about this creative project at the Easton Public Library in November to coincide with Talbot County STEM/STEAM week.

“FOUR ALARM” FLOWERS
It’s a “four alarm” flower emergency- a red alert for Amaryllis
No time for gloves or art apron
Rushing to beat the clock
But, a new day waits.
Another chore list ready before breakfast
Dishwasher loaded, laundry folded, vacuum put away
Errands run, dogs fed
Dinner is served, but I’m still hungry.
Craving colors blended with linseed oil; my palette knife has the touch
Paint applied using a filbert brush
Opaque and smooth strokes; light infused with a hint of surprise
The stain of last week’s work leaves a trace
There is no right or wrong - the cacophony of colors quenches my craving.
Now I am still.
